A classic FYBA event, the 5th Annual FYBA Awarding Ceremony and Picnic went underway last Saturday at the Van Dyck Park, Fairfax VA, an event that turned out to be the best ever in FYBA’s 5 year history. Under a very nice sunny weather, the well-attended affair had so much in store not only for the kids but also for the whole family as well, starting off with fun-filled games like the popular newspaper dance, the egg contest and the “bring me” contest. Everyone had a blast as the little kids danced their hearts out and were later joined in by their parents amid the loud cheering from the crowd. It was such a fun sight. The Egg catching contest was another crowd favorite as all the contestants, kids and adults alike, displayed their egg throwing and catching prowess, with the Quiroz family as the eventual winners. As it was a potluck event, everybody was treated to a wide variety of food and snacks brought in by the whole community. One all-time crowd favorite was the Filipino traditional “Halo-halo”, complete with all the ingredients and trimmings of the classic Filipino refreshment, topping it off with a slice of “langka” (jackfruit), very appropriate with the summer weather. The Halo-halo crew was kept busy by the long queue, all eager to grab one.
Towards mid-afternoon was the holding of the grand raffle with no less than two round trip tickets to Asia courtesy of All Nippon Airways as the Grand Prize, the winning ticket bought by Pacita Aguas from Fairfax Station. Second prize of one I PAD-2 courtesy of the Lancaster family went to AJ Limpin and third prize of one jumbo balikbayan box donated by Manila Forwarders Corporation was won by Vic Torres. Congratulations to all the winners.
The last major part of the festivities was the awarding ceremony of the 2012 FYBA Spring league with the announcement of all the candidates of all the different categories in the respective divisions and the awarding of the trophies, medals and certificates to all the winners. More noticeably are the first time winners from the mosquito division beaming from ear to ear as they receive their medals and awards. Congratulations again to the winners.
The fun-filled day concluded with everyone having had the time of their lives even for just a day and with a promise of a much bigger picnic and awarding event, with more games and surprises. Moving on to the next major FYBA event, the 2012 NABA Inter-City Basketball Tournament coming September 1-2.
